HOW THE D&D TREASURE HUNT WORKS
HOW THE HUNT WORKS is simple: The D&D TREASURE HUNT begins 10 days before Halloween, with one clue released at 5PM each day. Every clue leads hunters closer to a hidden medallion located somewhere within Saint Paul city limits. The search continues until someone finds the medallion. The hunt may end before all 10 clues are released. The first person to physically grab the medallion before midnight on Halloween, wins. The person who gets the medallion, gets the treasure.

See official Rules Here.
Inspired by Minnesota traditions like the Saint Paul Winter Carnival Medallion Hunt, and Saint Paul lore, this is an underground hunt that combines daily clues, local geography and D&D-style adventure. The cash money prize isn't the whole point. There's a particular satisfaction in catching a double meaning, testing an unlikely theory, and realizing that a familiar corner of Saint Paul has been hiding a clue all along. Expect to follow hunches, learn about the history of St. Paul, compare notes, and occasionally be very sure of something very wrong. You don't have to find the medallion to enjoy the moment a clue finally makes sense. Â
FIRST TIME HUNTING? The D&D Treasure Hunt is free to play. No registration, purchase, or donation is required (but we do appreciate it greatly if you do). You can hunt on your own or with a team -- just read the official rules before you head out.Â

Save the date: the 2026 hunt  begins October 22 at 5:00 PM Central Time. Bookmark this website and visit the Clues page for a new clue each day at 5:00 PM, until the medallion is found or the hunt ends on Halloween night. This website is the official source for clues and hunt-status updates.Â
Â
Follow the clues to a hidden medallion somewhere on public land within Saint Paul city limits. It may be lightly concealed, but digging is never required. Always follow posted hours and respect the places you search.Â
Â

This year's prize includes $250 cash, the medallion, and any other hunt-related prizes offered.
Found the medallion? Contact instructions will be attached to or included with it. Follow those instructions to call or text the organizer before the Halloween deadline specified in the Official Rules. Use the contact information with the medallion -- not the website's Contact page -- to claim your prize. For general questions about the hunt, use the contact page.Â
THE STORY BEHIND THE D&D TREASURE HUNT
THE STORY BEHIND THE D&D TREASURE HUNT begins in 2013, when the first D&D Treasure Hunt was created. Several hunts have taken place since then, building a Saint Paul tradition inspired by puzzles, exploration and the spirit of Dungeons & Dragons. Uncle Harry helped shape that tradition, contributing clues and participating from afar. He passed away before the start of one year's hunt, but the puzzles he helped create remain part of its history. Each offers a chance to follow his thinking and discover a little of the imagination he brought to the game.
Â
The names D. Rex and D. Ng are a play on the names and credit styles associated with the creators of Dungeons & Dragons. But there is also a much more personal meaning behind them. D. Rex created the hunt in memory of David Ng, the hunt creator’s son, who passed away in 2012. What began as a game became a way to keep David’s memory connected to something imaginative, adventurous and shared with others. Something that D.Rex and David shared while he was alive.
THE DUNGEON MASTERS
THE DUNGEON MASTERS with backing from Uncle Harry Productions LTD. are responsible for building and running each D&D Treasure Hunt from start to finish. They scout potential hiding locations within St. Paul, write and test the clues, make sure every clue can be solved fairly, hide the prize and release each new clue at dusk during the hunt.
Behind the scenes, the team also monitors the search, confirms when the prize has been found and, once the hunt is over, publishes the complete clue set with explanations revealing how each clue pointed toward the final location.
