OFFICIAL TREASURE HUNT RULES
1. Free to Play
The D&D Treasure Hunt is free to participate in. No purchase, entry fee, registration, or donation is required to hunt or win. Donations are completely optional, help support future hunts, and provide no advantage or additional chance of winning.
2. Hunt Dates & Clue Release
The hunt officially begins at 5:00 PM on October 22. A new clue is released each day at 5:00 PM—right around the time Minnesota starts getting dark this time of year—until the medallion is found or the hunt ends.
3. Official Clues
DNDtreasurehunt.com is the official source for hunt clues and hunt-status updates. Clues may be shared elsewhere, but hunters should use the website as the official source for both treasure hunt rules and clues.
4. Hunt Boundary
The medallion is hidden on public land within the official city limits of Saint Paul, Minnesota. It may be in a park, but it does not have to be. It will not be hidden outside Saint Paul proper.
5. Public Access Only
No admission fee or paid entry will be required to reach the hiding area. Hunters should never need to enter, cross, or search private property.
6. No Digging Required
The medallion will never be buried underground. It may be lightly concealed by something already present at the location, but digging is never necessary.
7. Use Common Sense
The medallion will not require hunters to climb fences, trees, buildings, or other structures, enter water, trespass, damage property, or ignore posted rules or hours. If reaching an area seems unsafe or obviously prohibited, that is not where you are expected to search.
8. The Medallion Stays Put
Once the hunt begins, the medallion remains at its hiding location until it is found or the hunt ends.
9. Who May Participate
There is no age restriction. Minors must participate with a parent or guardian. Hunters may search individually or as a team.
10. Teams
A team may find the medallion, but there is only one medallion and one cash prize. How a team divides the prize is entirely the responsibility of its members.
11. Winning the Hunt
The winner is the first individual or team to physically find and possess the medallion and call or text the hunt contact number before the deadline. The contact number is provided separately to participants and is not published on the website. The finder must show the actual medallion to the organizers to claim the prize.
12. The Prize
The winner receives both the medallion and the fixed cash prize announced for that year’s hunt. The prize is not a donation pool and does not increase based on contributions.
13. Halloween Deadline
The medallion must be found and the finder must call or text no later than 11:59 PM on October 31. A finder who contacts the organizers before the deadline may show the medallion afterward. At 12:00 AM on November 1, the hunt is over. If nobody has found and claimed the medallion by the deadline, there is no winner and the cash prize is no longer available
14. Winner Recognition
A winner’s name, photograph, or other identifying information will only be publicly shared with the winner’s permission.
15. Hunt Safely
Hunters participate at their own risk and are responsible for their own actions and safety. All applicable laws, posted restrictions, property rules, and public-land hours must be followed, as well as treasure hunt rules.
16. Independent Hunt
The D&D Treasure Hunt is independently organized and is not sponsored, operated, administered, or endorsed by the City of Saint Paul.
